Design and Implementation of Network Access Multiservice Optical Fiber To the Home User (FTTH)

TOPIC: Telecommunications
METHOD: A distance
LANGUAGE: Castilian
DURATION: From October 19 to November 20, 2009
CODE: 20090303MDIS
DEADLINE: 01 September 2009

SPONSOR:

Organization of American States-OAS / Regional Training Center of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) and Node of the Network of Excellence of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Universidad Católica del Uruguay (UCU).

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

Convey to participants the basic knowledge to enable them to understand the FTTH access technology. Understand the benefits of these technologies, analyzing each of the various network elements involved in such access networks. Use this knowledge to design this type of access networks, both in terms of its own fiber optic network, the teams that make up the integration and aggregation network.

PROGRAM:
1 Evolution of access networks within the framework of next generation networks
• next generation networks and location of access
• Service requirements
• Comparison of different technologies
• advantages of evolution toward fiber-optic networks

2 FTTH networks. EPON and GPON technologies
• Fiber Optic
• FTTH network architecture
• active and passive components
• PON
• EPON technology
• GPON technology

3 nodes for access and deployment of fiber optic services
• Alternative and implementation of the access nodes
• tr-101 and changing requirements for access nodes
• connect the nodes to access the transport network
• implementation of services

4 Deployment of the network of optical fiber access
• different types of fibers and components to use
• Fiber network structure
• implementation of the network
• If a network migration from copper to a fiber network
• implementation costs

Example 5 Design of a FTTH network
• Analysis of the area to meet
• Design of the fiber optic network
• Design of equipment

METHODOLOGY:
The distance course will be held for five (5) weeks taught through the distance education platform for the ITU. The tutors met weekly to participants who joined the Web to: a) access to the session of the course, b) read support materials, c) download the exercises or activities that are allocated, d) complete or develop activities each week and e) post their answers so that the tutors can analyze, evaluate and clarify if you require. Moreover, the group returned to the weekly Tutores a consolidated analysis of their responses as well as the individual details and clarifications are necessary. The evaluation process is based on participation in the forum and a final exam.
Evaluation: The evaluation will consist of 2 parts, corresponding to the student's participation in the forum and work for the proposed end. The final grade is determined as follows:
• Approved with words: one who obtains a score greater than 90%.
• Approved: one who obtains a score between 60% and 90%.
• Not Approved: one who obtains a score below 60%.

BENEFITS:

CITEL / OAS will cover the full cost of tuition of $ 200.00 for the selected candidates.

Participants Profile:

• Professionals and Technicians, as well as managers, managers and staff working in planning, design, approval, maintenance, regulation, etc.. Administrations / organizations in the telecommunications sector.
• Members of Regulatory Bodies: Access and its features is a very important role in the regulation of telecommunications. Understand the various elements of the access and important to create good standards of regulation.
• Staff technology assessments of both the technical point of view and economically. It will allow them to understand the impact of each element of the technology in its benefits and its costs.
